Alaska Airlines seeks Spanish-speaking agents
Se habla espaņol?If so, Alaska Airlines wants you to help make reservations from its Valley operation.
The carrier is aggressively recruiting Spanish speakers as it increases service to Mexico and bolsters its presence along the West Coast.
"Our goal is to serve customers in their language of choice," said spokeswoman Amanda Tobin Bielawski. "And that means we need to hire more Spanish-speaking employees."
The carrier plans to add 50 bilingual agents in the Valley, in addition to the 20 already here. The bilingual speakers will earn a higher hourly wage, Tobin Bielawski said.
A job fair for bilingual job candidates is set for Aug. 2 at the Alaska Airlines center, 737 W. Alameda Drive in Tempe. Click on "careers" on www.alaskaair.com for details.
Alaska also offers Spanish-language kiosks and a Web site.
Tempe-based US Airways is not concentrating on hiring bilingual agents, although it has some, spokesman Philip Gee said.
