Ethnicity's role in our history holds lessons for all of us Ethnicity's role in our history holds lessons for all of usJun. 22, 2008 12:00 AM
Absolutely the
best history course I ever took was Professor Robert Kelley's "Ethnocentric
American History." He taught cultural history, conflicts, antagonisms that were
rooted in Europe and elsewhere. He taught me that politics is not only ideology
and economics but also religion, language, lifestyle, skin color and ethnicity.
Properly taught, ethnic studies seems a legitimate elective course. Ethnicity
drives much of U.S. politics and American life. |
