At Tuesday's Sunnyside Unified School District meeting, the board will listen to a district alternative to the state Legislature's mandate of four hours a day of segregated structured English immersion for students who can't speak English .

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the board room of district headquarters, 2238 E. Ginter Road.

No vote will be taken now on the alternative plan, which is to have two hours of structured immersion in English , but the other two hours on English development, including academic content, not just language acquisition. For those two hours, the students would be integrated into other classrooms, spokeswoman Monique Soria said.

The board will discuss the next step in this process, she said.
